The Mute Oracle

2025, 3D-printed form, metallic paint, white paint, Antique Chinese hardwood wooden vase stand, paper fortunes. 14" X 10" X 10" in. | 36 X 25 X 25 cm

A 3D-printed sculptural bust titled "The Mute Oracle" by Keith Francis. The head is finished in a deep metallic crimson and features a figure with strained, closed eyes. The figure wears large, industrial-style decibel-reduction earmuffs and a molded face mask, both in the same metallic red. Thick, opaque white paint has been poured over the crown of the head, creating long, vertical drips that run down the face, ears, and mask, partially obscuring the features. A single white paper fortune, printed with black text, emerges from a slit in the mouth area of the mask. The entire bust is mounted on a dark, intricately carved antique Chinese hardwood vase stand with a circular, scalloped base. The piece serves as a symbolic portrait of state-enforced silence and the controlled dispensing of "destiny" through propaganda.
